And the distinction between violent and non-violent action is that the former is exclusively bent upon the destruction of the old, and the latter is chiefly concerned with the establishment of something new.Hannah Arendt
I keep waking up in a world going mad. Every night I go to sleep not wishing tomorrow will be a better day but wishing this is all just a long nightmare.
Putting this into writing has been quite hard, as if writing my thoughts on what’s going on would make things more real.
There is no words for the images we’ve seen about George Floyd’s death are truly shocking.
I’m shocked this could happen in 2020 because you would think we have learned from the past. Maybe we will never learn. I want to believe that some do learn.
I’m shocked this would happen in the US because you would think people’s thinking has changed if they once voted for Obama. Maybe some things will never change. I want to believe that they have already changed for the majority.
I’m shocked it’s so hard to hear a public apology because you would think authorities know it’s importance. Maybe they don’t. I want to believe we will choose better.
I’m shocked the police is not there to protect but to frighten because it should not be like that. Maybe we forgot what a civil society is. I want to believe this is not the case everywhere.
I’m shocked manifestations for such an important matter turn into the occasion for more destruction. Maybe destructive behaviors will never cease. I want to believe humans can do differently.
Let’s establish something new. Let’s stop assuming things have already changed. Let’s keep improving.
